About the UUID Generator

Developers constantly need mock unique IDs. Our UUID generator creates standard Version 4 Universal Unique Identifiers instantly. You can generate a single key or thousands at once for your database seeding or application testing.

How to generate UUIDs

  1. Choose how many identifiers you need.
  2. Generate the UUIDs in the tool and check that the list has the expected count.
  3. Copy one value for a record or copy the batch for fixtures, seed data, or tests.

What UUID v4 means

Version 4 UUIDs are randomly generated identifiers with the version and variant bits set according to the UUID format. This implementation uses crypto.randomUUID when available and falls back to crypto.getRandomValues, making it suitable for ordinary identifiers, fixtures, and client-side test data.

Common use cases

  • Database seed records and mock API responses
  • Client-side correlation IDs and temporary keys
  • Test fixtures where readable sequential IDs are undesirable

Important notes and limitations

  • A UUID is an identifier, not proof of identity, authorization, or secrecy.
  • Practical collision risk is extremely low for normal use, but applications should still enforce their own uniqueness constraints.

Practical tips

  • Store UUIDs in the database type and format recommended by your framework rather than assuming every system wants a string.
